\[ \sqrt{2 \sqrt{2 \sqrt{2 \sqrt{2 \cdots}}}} - \sqrt{2 + \sqrt{2 + \sqrt{2 + \sqrt{2 + \cdots}}}} \]

위 식의 첫째항과 둘째항을 각각 $x$와 $y$라 하자. 먼저 $x$의 값을 계산해 보자. $x^2 = 2x$라는 사실로부터

\[ x^2 = 2x \quad \Rightarrow \quad x(x-2) = 0 \quad \Rightarrow \quad x=0,\,2 \]

이 때 $x>0$이므로, $x=2$임을 알 수 있다.

또한 $y$의 값을 계산하기 위하여, $y^2 = 2+y$라는 사실을 이용하면

\[y^2 = 2 + y \quad \Rightarrow \quad (y+1)(y-2) = 0 \quad \Rightarrow \quad y=-1,\,2 \]

하지만 $y>0$이므로, $y=2$임을 알 수 있다.

따라서 주어진 값은
